Chinese fighter jet sales surge

Chinese fighter jet manufacturers have reported a significant rise in global sales and international interest following the military confrontation between India and Pakistan last year, according to a Bloomberg report. Analysts say the increase is largely linked to the performance of Chinese-made aircraft during the brief but intense conflict.

One of the key beneficiaries has been AVIC Chengdu Aircraft Corporation, which produces the J-10C fighter jet operated by Pakistan. The company reported revenue of 75.4 billion yuan ($11 billion) in 2025, marking a 15.8% increase, while profits rose 6.5% to 3.4 billion yuan. These figures represent the highest financial performance in the company’s history.

The momentum has continued into 2026, with first-quarter sales reportedly surging by nearly 80% year-on-year. Industry observers attribute this sharp growth to increased global attention on Chinese fighter jets after their deployment in the May 2025 India-Pakistan confrontation.

During the conflict, Pakistan used Chinese-built platforms, including the Chengdu J-10 and the jointly produced JF-17 aircraft. These systems were credited by Pakistani officials with playing a significant role in aerial operations, boosting their visibility in the international defence market.

The J-10C, inducted into the Pakistan Air Force in 2022, gained particular attention for its advanced missile systems and combat capabilities. Analysts say its performance during the conflict has strengthened its reputation as a cost-effective alternative to Western fighter jets.

Reports also indicate growing international inquiries about the JF-17 programme, reflecting increased demand for combat-tested and lower-cost military platforms. Defence analysts suggest that the conflict effectively served as a real-world demonstration of Chinese aviation technology.

With rising demand across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, Chinese defence firms are increasingly positioning themselves as strong competitors in the global arms market, challenging long-standing Western dominance in high-end fighter jet production.
